A tribute to perhaps the finest establishment in Dubois, the Opportunity Shop, where commerce enhances community.
This is not a scam or a real estate promo. This is a tribute to perhaps the finest establishment in Dubois, the Opportunity Shop, where commerce enhances community.
My friend, about to retire, told her accountant not to budget anything for clothing. She only shops at the “Op Shop,” where prices are beyond low. So do we all; it’s where we trade our treasures.
This looks so great with jeans! I paid about $3 for it a few weeks ago. Often you find nothing (and much you’d never touch), but sometimes you find …
… great bargains.
I call this my “disposable suede jacket.” It was hanging on the deep discount rack. I paid 75 cents for it. You know why: Suede is so costly to clean.
But at the price I paid, still a bargain. Not just Coldwater Creek: I’ve found Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein at the Op Shop.
Wish you could see this crinkly shell and touch this lovely soft shirt. Every so often I trade back to the Op Shop to make room in the closet.
It’s not just clothes. The Op Shop offers housewares, furniture, and more. As with so much else in this town, every cent of profit goes to local charity.
We snagged this Wusthof knife collection at the annual Op Shop silent auction for $100. The silent auction is a must-show, an overwhelming display of many hundreds of curiosities and treasures, all donated (of course).
Over the past 5 years, the Op Shop has returned about $75,000 in grants to organizations in the Dubois community. If the bargains weren’t so great, you might actually feel virtuous shopping here.
