… the Lava Mountain fire. Already 400 acres have burned, about 30 miles west of town, and there’s no end in sight. It began with a lightning strike 3 days ago, and was too remote to reach. Now it’s too hot for firefighters on the ground to approach, so they’re hitting it from the air–and hard. We see helicopters every day, trailing buckets of water on very long lines. There’s no rain in the forecast.
